Is Duke a Dad Again?
There is no way of knowing the answer to the above question, but Duke has recently been photographed with a breeding herd, and is pictured here with a calf. New information open to Kruger visitors

PRETORIUSKOP - The Lowveld region of honorary rangers recently held the official opening of the Information Centre at this rest camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP).

The ceremony was attended by the SANParks staff of the Marula Region (southern region of the park), the Lowveld Honorary Rangers and some distinguished guests, including Mr Harold Ressnik from Gauteng, who has been a member for 43 years.

The speakers included the information centre project leader Mr André Kleynhans, Lowveld regional chairman Mr Patrick Reniers, while Ressnik gave a short resume of memories of past experiences at Pretoriuskop.

Kleynhans then asked Ms Nasiwe Nelani, the regional manager of the southern business unit in the park, to open the information centre officially and to unveil the bronze bust of a life-size sable antelope.

The information centre is also a small museum, which shows visitors many old artefacts from the KNP's past.

A Voortrekker wagon has also been brought to Pretoriuskop and parked next to the restaurant. The info centre will be manned by SANParks staff and honorary rangers on duty at the rest camp. This project is the first of many similar ones to be undertaken in the southern sector of Kruger.

If anyone has any old historic items that they feel that could be used in the museum, please contact André Kleynhans on 082-569-3110 or Grant Coleman on 082-495-5616.

Committed members of the public wishing to join the honorary rangers can contact Leslie Coleman on 082-498-9882 or email lowvalve@mweb.co.za
